About

HackerTube, indexed for browsing

HackerTube is a weekend project by Andrej Karpathy: instead of letting a recommendation algorithm decide what to watch, it collects the YouTube videos Hacker News commenters recommend to each other. The result is 6,454 videos drawn from 39,834 comments, spanning 2007–2026 and 150 topics.

This site is an independent index on top of that catalog. The original interface is a video wall; here the catalog is organized by area and topic, with full-text search, sorting by Hacker News recommendation strength, and a page for every video.

What we add

  • · Search across titles, channels, topics and tags
  • · 16 areas and 150 topics for structured browsing
  • · Sort by HN recommendation score or upload year
  • · One page per video with source links

What we do not do

  • · Host, mirror or re-upload any video
  • · Track you or build a watch profile
  • · Claim affiliation with HackerTube or Hacker News

Data and credit

Video metadata (title, channel, duration, views, publish date) and Hacker News mention statistics come from the public HackerTube catalog. The catalog was last refreshed on 2026-11-02.

The original project: hackertube.org. The launch post: “Instead of YouTube, watch HackerTube”.

All videos remain the property of their creators and are played through the official YouTube embed. If you are a creator and want a listing removed, contact us and we will drop it from the index.
