How to use this HackerTube index
This site is a navigator for the 6,454 videos recommended in Hacker News comments. It adds search, filtering and topic structure on top of the public catalog; playback always happens on YouTube.
1. Search the catalog
Search by title, channel, topic, or tag. Results are matched across the whole 6,454-video catalog, not just the first page.
2. Filter by area
Narrow down to software, hardware, AI, math, science, history, or any of the 150 fine-grained topics.
3. Sort by signal
“Most recommended” ranks videos by how often Hacker News commenters pushed them; “Newest” and “Oldest” sort by upload year.
4. Watch the source
Playback uses the official YouTube player. Every video links back to its channel and the Hacker News conversation.
Reading the numbers
HN mentions counts how many comments linked the video. A video with many mentions but a low score was probably shared as a reference or counter-example rather than a strong recommendation.
Recommendation score weights those mentions by how positive the surrounding comment was. “Most recommended” sorts by this score first, then by raw mention count.
First / last year shows the span of years in which Hacker News kept bringing the video up. A wide span is usually a better signal than a single burst.

Attribution and limits
This is an unofficial project. Video metadata and Hacker News counts come from the public hackertube.org catalog; videos are embedded from YouTube and remain the property of their creators. We do not host, download, or re-upload any video.
